The challenge
Our client was developing a new piece of industrial equipment and needed to take measurements within a confined space inside their rotating machine to validate its performance.
The traditional solution would be to wire up all required sensors to a computer for readout. But connecting sensitive sensor wires through a moving joint would be extremely challenging and fragile.
The solution
A standalone measurement system that works without any external connections.
Instead of running wires through the moving joint, we built a self-contained system that performs standalone measurements: no computer or external power supply required. The DAQ Hub captures 8 channels of sensor data simultaneously with low-noise analog design and anti-aliasing filters.
Since this application did not require real-time access to the data, we opted to save the acquired data to internal storage (SD card) rather than using a wireless connection. This allowed us to create a quick and robust solution, enabling our client to continue their R&D project on time.
Real-time visualisation and logging
Since developing the original DAQ Hub, another project came up that required a connection to a PC via USB. While the original version was designed for measuring in hard-to-reach spaces, this version is optimised for fast, real-time visualisation of sensor data via a standard computer.
For our client it was important to have all data available in real time, giving a quick overview of their process. We developed software that retrieves the data in real time while processing, visualising and logging it according to their specific requirements.
We made it our goal to keep it simple and convenient to use. While advanced settings are available, the basic workflow is straightforward: plug in the device, press start and the data shows up on the screen. This allows our customer to stay focused on their domain while using our advanced data processing technology.
"Ingmar and Sjors can actively participate in discussions towards a final design"
"Knowing Ingmar for quite some time already, I knew where to go when I needed some special designed hardware with partially unknown demands. Ingmar and Sjors can actively participate in discussions towards a final design. After some initial discussions we got a clear outline of different aspects of the costs. When we received the product, it exceeded expectations. The system was easy to operate and recorded measurements at required frequency. Once I installed a wrong driver but moments later, with support from Ingmar, the system was fully functional again. Next time I need customized data acquisition or measurement systems, I will be very happy to contact Jitter again!"
